Our leg muscles have to undergo a lot of pressure due to our busy lifestyle. Our foot has a tissue which connects the heel bones to the toes and it is called plantar fascia or ligament. Ligament acts as a support system to our foot. While walking or running you might hurt your ligaments that can cause inflammation thereby resulting in straining of the ligaments. Most athletes or middle-aged people hurt their foot muscles which cause plantar fasciitis.
Repeated Strain In Your Ligaments
You can strain your ligament if you stand or walk for a longer period of time. It has been found that the weakening of the heel bones can result in the excessive amount of pain. Â If you have sprained your foot muscles for a repeated number of times then your ligaments might tear. A slight tearing of ligament can result in swelling of your foot. Some of the causes of plantar fasciitis are as follows:
- If you are overweight
- If you have calf muscles
- If your feet are flat
- If you roll inward quite often while walking
- If your shoes are a misfit
The above-mentioned list will give you an idea about the situations which might lead to swelling of your ligaments. You need to become aware while choosing your shoes as shoes with high heels can disbalance you and ultimately fracture your plantar fascia.
Symptoms
As the heel muscle is connected to our foot, so a small injury can make it difficult for us to walk or to move our legs. Some of the symptoms that will make you aware that you are having a ligament fracture or that your ligament needs some rest has been enlisted below:
- Pain in heels

A person who has injured their foot muscles will encounter a little pain in their foot but as the days pass by this pain will become harder. If you sit for a long time you will find that you are facing problem while standing. This pain might increase even more whenever you try to climb up a stair.
Treating Your Swollen Ligament
There is no perfect treatment that can be suggested for ligament fracture but one thing that you can do is to consult a doctor immediately. A physician will ask you questions regarding the parts of your foot which is paining and will try to know the cause of injury. On the basis of questions, he/she can prescribe you medicines. Apart from medicine you need to follow certain instructions for getting relief from pain and these are as follows:
- Give complete rest to your legs and do not take up any physical activities.
- For reducing the pain you can put ice on your heel or put your legs in warm and cold water simultaneously.
- You can do stretching exercises for your toes in the morning.
